NO RACE – no exceptions. We’ve worked hard to bring you a KICK#%& race – don’t miss out by leaving your ID at home or in the car!! We will have blank waivers available onsite, but remember that this will slow down not only YOUR check-in process, but the check-in process for people who are behind you in line.
We recommend shoes, lightweight apparel, and a camelback for longer events. We also recommend a towel and a plastic bag or two for your muddy clothes post-race. Forgot to bring a change of clothes? Don’t worry! We’ve got plenty of Spartan gear available at our merchandise tent.
What should I wear?
• Tutus, short shorts or Super Hero tights.
• Rabbit ears, Spartan capes, or a tiara.
• Marathon gear, triathlon gear, or spelunking gear.
• You’re choice really. Depends on how fast you want to go?
We strongly recommend trail running shoes or sneakers. Running in bare feet is discouraged due to terrain.
What about the weather?
Generally speaking, we race rain or shine, heat or snow. For us to not have a race, it must be a severe act of God such as a hurricane, forest fire, flood, blizzard, etc.. So, if you get up and it is pouring rain, we are racing. If it is snowing a bit, we are racing. If it is hot, we are racing. If it is cold, we are racing. IF for some reason we must cancel an event due to uncontrollable weather conditions, like the hurricanes in 2011, emails will go out and announcements will clearly be made here on the site and via social networking channels.
Where can I find medical help?
There will be numerous volunteer paramedics and EMS personnel at every event. If you get injured, we will radio them immediately for help. If you find someone injured on the course, do not attempt to move them, find the nearest Marshall and alert them and they will radio for medical attention.
Is there a time limit for each event?
There is no time limit!! Sign up, show up and DO NOT give up! We’ll be there to help you celebrate when you cross the finish line!
What if there is a water obstacle and I can’t swim?

Can I bring my dog?
We love pets – but they are not allowed at any of our venues. Please DO NOT bring any pets (cats, dogs, birds, snakes, etc.) onsite or leave them unattended in your vehicle or tethered in the parking area.
Are water and aid stations on the course?
We have water and aid stations on every course. During a three mile Sprint course we may only have one aid station halfway through. During longer races like a Super or Beast we will provide up to 4 aid stations. We do not provide gels or food, so bring some with you. Make sure to hydrate as much as you can the night before the race. You can also bring a camelbacks or water bottles. If you think you might need it, bring it.
Are spectators allowed, do they pay for admission and can they roam the course?
We welcome spectators!! Most Canadian venues charge $15 per spectator, but spectators 13 and under are free. Please check individual race pages for details. Each registered Junior Racer may have one parent/guardian accompany them onsite at no charge.
Spectator admission fees are collected onsite on the day of the race. Please bring cash as credit card/ATM services may be limited. Eastern Canada spectators receive a $5 merchandise voucher that can be used to purchase Spartan Gear at the onsite Merchandise Trailer.
All spectators have access to the village area where there is music, vendors, activities and viewing locations for several obstacles that allow you to get up close and personal with the Spartan Warriors! Find a position near the Gladiator Pit to snap photos of your racer as he/she takes on the Gladiator challenge before crossing the Finish Line. You are guaranteed to see lots of smiles and get a MUDDY victory hug if you hang out in this area!!
Most of the Ski Mountain venues provide Ski Lift access that offers aerial views of different obstacles along the course. Access restrictions can vary from course to course and are established to insure both spectator and racer safety. Please adhere to the posted restrictions.
Wishing you had signed up to race? Not a problem. You can register onsite for a same day (if space is available - must have ID) or future race. Not quite ready? Don’t worry, we’ll help you prepare – check out our FREE online .
What is a hurricane heat?
The Hurricane Heat (a.k.a. HH) is a special Spartan Fun Run opportunity with Spartan Founders that we offer at some of our events throughout the season. The Hurricane Heat gives runners the chance to meet and run with the Founders and staff of Spartan Race in a unique and memorable way. Held sometimes early Saturday morning or Friday night (Head lamps and glow sticks required!) it will take you through the course in groups with the goal of just finishing the course. No chips, no clock, just a fun run Spartan-style that represents what our company and our athletes are about: Getting up when you’re knocked down and finishing what you start.
Not currently available in Canada.
Can I skip an obstacle? Is there a penality?
Spartans don’t SKIP obstacles, we overcome them! We strongly discourage skipping an obstacle if you have not made a solid attempt to conquer it. Overcoming obstacles is what obstacle racing is all about and we don’t want you to miss out on that experience. We suggest you take your time and complete the obstacle, but if you really can’t – no worries! Just drop and give us 30 burpees before moving on. This is the penalty for ALL skipped obstacles. That could be a LOT of burpees!!
What should I do when I arrive on race day?

1) Look for REGISTRATION signs near the entrance to the festival area.
2) Show your signed waiver document and photo ID to the staff at the area leading up to the check-in zone.

Where can I find results and photos of my race?
As soon as they are available after the race weekend, you will find the results under RESULTS & RANKINGS and photos and videos under the specific event pages and they will be emailed to you after the race.
How are points and rankings calculated?
With every race, add more points to your annual ranking score. The season started after the last year’s Championships on 22. September 2012 and continues to this year’s World Championship Spartan Beast, 21-22 September 2013, in Killington, Vermont.
The more difficult a race, the more points you earn. Run with the best in an elite heat and qualify for potential prizes. Total points possible with both Elite Heats and Open/Regular Heats is 300 – so each race loss or win critically important. Each competitor’s point score will be based on his/her performance against the winner’s time in his/her age group and the following overall measures.
Points attributed to each respective race performance are then attributed based on race difficulty: Beast – 100 percent; Super – 98 percent; and Sprint – 96 percent. In addition, bonus points will be awarded for podium placement in Championship Races.
